Citrus

Sorry I haven't posted anything for ages, have been working as my alter ego.

Whilst researching this weeks word "citrus" I found out that Lemons can be used as batteries. This made be think of electric cars and then I wondered just how many lemons you'd need to power a drag racer?! Hope you enjoy.

Supertramp!

I don't know why but for some reason the first thing I thought of when I heard the topic was a drunken tramp on a park bench. I suppose it goes on the idea of what happens to superheroes when they grow old or are no longer needed. The guy in this image could have been something great once but we just see him as a hindrance in our busy lives.

Ghost

This is one of my paintings that I did relating to the theme of mortality. The idea that I had was that the girl is between the land of the living and the dead. She is dancing unaware of the figures surrounding her which were actually accidental marks made when the paint seeps through the canvas...quite creepy I thought considering they weren't intended.

Quiet

I was in quite a melancholic mood earlier today and ended up drawing this image as a self portrait, the skulls soon followed. I suppose it's because with some of my work people think I'm obsessed with death, even though I'm not. The image gives a slightly morbid approach to the subject of "Quiet".

Change

I've been away for a couple of weeks but liked the idea of doing something based on change. The idea here is that man has supposedly changed throughout the years to become this highly evolved species that is capable of walking on the moon yet is still subject to those primal needs of a caveman.

Capture

For this illustration I wanted to work on the idea of trying to capture youth and the lengths that some people with go to getting a certain "look". The image turned quite sinister when I started to think about different traps that are used and one of the most horrendous is the jaw or leg trap. I decided to use this in the work because of the brutal nature of plastic surgery, one of the methods that is used by people trying to re-capture their youth, butchering their natural features in the process.

Clean

One of the worst things when I come home after work is the thought of having to do the washing up, it's just never ending! I therefore thought, wouldn't it be great it you could just pour acid all over it? It might not be much use after but at least it would be clean.


I've had a bit more time to work on the image this week so thought I'd have a go at using gouache for the first time and was really pleased. Hope you like.

Opposites

Here's my illustration for 'opposites', thought I'd try to put together a number of opposites instead of focussing on one. These include Old and Young, Rich and Poor, Male and Female, and Black and White. Hope you like it.

Sacrifice

I wasn't sure at first what to do for this weeks Illustration Friday, was thinking of selling soul to the devil but went for this instead, good bit of heroics...shame he hasn't got a chance.

Crazy Bob

What can I say...I got bored at work and created 'Bob' and gave him a home. Probably reflects the environment I work in!

Skyline

This is the image I have done for the theme of "skyline". I decided to try mixed media in order to experiment with different materials. Hope you like it.

This is my illustration for the theme of "sticky". I couldn't think of anything at first but then this idea came to me and I decided to try collage for a change. Hope you like it.

Tears in the Rain

This is my interpretation of the word 'rain' and is based on the idea of tears being indistinguishable when in the rain.

I just decided to draw this figure and it ended up looking a bit like one of my past students.

Robot dancing

After drawing the ballroom dancers I just felt like doing another one for fun.

Do the Robot

My first thought on the theme of dance was to turn the popular 'robot' dance into something a little more refined - robots ballroom dancing.

Jungle

I interpreted the theme of 'jungle' by combining the idea of an urban jungle with a resident of a jungle seeing the skyline of a city instead of the jungle they used to know.

Portrait

I'm quite new to the whole illustration thing so I'm still trying to find my feet.
